Students read and discussed “Hair” looking at author’s purpose and tone. Students will begin reading “The Monkey’s Paw” looking at elements of plot.

Homework: GUM pages 251, 252, 253, 254

Remember that response papers are due on 11-16 (odd), 11-17 (even).

Students wrote a timed essay. Mid-year writing assessment They finished the argument evaluation sheet for “Call of the Wild, Save Me.”

Do-overs for the usage and vocabulary tests were due at the start of class today.

You may do-over the “I Have a Dream” paraphrase assignment. That will be due at the start of class on Monday.

Please be sure that you have begun reading your nonfiction book. Book projects are due 12-15 (odd), 12-16 (even). You will need to write a summary of the book (yes, complete sentences) and a recommendation. Would you recommend this book? Why or why not? Give detail.

Students had a vocabulary test today. They also evaluated and anchor paper, paraphrased MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and began an argument evaluation chart reading “Call of the Wild, Save Us.”
